For Sale: 1965 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia in Darien, Connecticut for sale in Darien, CT
Vehicle Description 1965 Karmann Ghia with original engine and 90% original German metal.
Shipped to San Francisco June 1965 and we picked-up in 2015 in Los Gatos CA.
The nose required a rebuild due to an older nose tap repair and we used good quality metal from C&C out of the UK.
Additional metal work including the rear of the engine bay valance and one-half of a rear floor pan.
The car had very little rust, so we there is no bondo covering shoddy work.
(Apache Automotive out of Bristol RI did body work, and we have pictures to share showing the quality of the work).
Beyond the body work, we touched everything - entire new front end rebuild (including professional alignment), rear suspension, brakes, wiring, Sewfine interior on original seat frames, German square weave carpet, Coker Classic tires, top end engine rebuild (compression readings and oil pressure noted), rewelded clutch tube, ran new fuel line, new fuel system, etc.
We sourced quality German parts and stayed away from aftermarket parts from China.
Looking forward, I plan on doing some minor updates until sale, which includes aligning front bumper (these are original, re-chromed German bumpers, not the cheap stainless steel reproductions), and swapping out the door rubber with German rubber for better door alignment (we are using West Coast Metric rubber and its causing the doors to push out slightly).
Everything works except for wipers and original radio (which has not been hooked-up).
While it is not perfect, it is extraordinary and it is absolutely one of the better ones out there that started as a solid base with professional, quality body work.
It is an awesome, mostly original CA Karmann Ghia that runs fantastic and is a blast to drive (6 volt original engine runs awesome!).
I want this to go to a good home who will continue to care for and preserve her for another 50
years!.
